Originally designed in the early 1930’s by local legend, Kathryn Mott, this historical home had been through several remodels before being acquired by the current homeowners in 2005. The project began with extensive collaboration between Margie, Lauren, the architect and homeowner with the intent of capturing the original character of the house while expanding to meet the needs of an active family. The extremely close attention paid to every detail resulted in a major structural addition with seamless transitions between old and new. Raised panel, passage doors designed to match the original oak doors and repetition of a shaped plaster arch from a small detail in the original entry are some of these details. During the course of the remodel, the house was given the distinction of being entered on the “Historical Register.” Margie and Lauren were careful to respect the period of the house without sacrificing the modern efficiencies for ease of living. It won an award in the 2007 ASID awards as well as continued a relationship between Margie, Lauren and the clients for 4 additional projects, including a college student’s first home, commercial offices, and a remote location vacation home.
